BOTANICAL
GARDENS
SCORED TEASER-FILM FOR
THE UNIVERSITY OF OSNABRÜCK

In 2023, the Botanical Garden Osnabrück was the focus of a captivating teaser film for the University of Osnabrück (DE), designed to invite viewers into its lush and diverse landscapes. The challenge was clear: to create a soundtrack that not only captured the visual beauty of the gardens but also guided the audience on a sensory journey through its thematic areas.
The layout of the garden is a game of nature and design, divided into distinct zones, each with its own atmosphere and story to tell. From the tranquil serenity of the Asian garden to the playful elegance of the water features, and majesty of the iconic tropical house, each section offered unique creative inspiration.
To bring these areas to life musically, I crafted a dynamic orchestral score that transitions between themes while weaving a unifying central motif throughout the piece. The composition strikes a balance between emotional depth and cinematic energy. This blend of lush orchestration and delicate thematic development allows the music to enhance the narrative arc of the teaser, creating an immersive experience that resonates with the viewers.
In creating the soundtrack, I aimed to reflect the organic rhythms of the garden itself—its gentle ebbs and flows, its bursts of life, and its quiet, contemplative spaces. This was achieved through a carefully constructed palette of strings, woodwinds, and ethnic instruments, accented by subtle electronic textures to evoke a sense of wonder and modernity.
This composition was a crash course in balancing creativity with deadlines and learning to work closely with producers. Starting with a catalogue of rough ideas, I quickly adapted to feedback and shifting project goals. Tight timelines taught me to prioritize efficiency, while collaboration pushed me to align my music with the story’s needs. These challenges were tough but invaluable in shaping my approach as a composer.

THE SUMMIT
A deeply personal and cinematic stand-alone composition, inspired by the gripping stories and documentaries of the Himalayan expeditions.
"The Summit" is a tribute to both the human spirit and the mountains' untamed, awe-inspiring presence.
At the core of The Summit is a focus on the brass section, which serves as the driving force behind the piece’s soaring climaxes. The brass register was chosen for its ability to evoke richness and grandeur, qualities that mirror the overwhelming dominance of the mountain landscape. Sustained, powerful chords are used to describe the sheer, dangerous beauty of the towering peaks—capturing their majestic yet intimidating presence. These moments of sonic weight are balanced with more delicate textures, creating contrast and emphasizing the duality of the expedition: awe and danger, ambition and sacrifice.
The composition also relies heavily on dynamic shifts to reflect the evolving emotions of the journey. The piece begins with a bright and optimistic tone, driven by a sense of adventure and possibility. As the narrative unfolds, the music transitions into more somber and introspective passages, underscoring the sacrifice and peril involved in reaching such great heights. These transitions were carefully orchestrated to maintain the listener’s immersion, using gradual changes in harmony, instrumentation, and phrasing to seamlessly shift between emotional states.
A visual stock collage accompanies the score, amplifying the storytelling and immersing the audience in the grandeur and peril of the journey. The Summit is a tribute to both the human spirit and the mountains’ untamed, awe-inspiring presence.

GENESIS
RESCORED BY LUKAS RABENSTEINER
BERLIN INTERNATIONAL FILM SCORING COMPETITION 2022
Title: Genesis
Music: Lukas Rabensteiner
Genesis is a composition that thrives on capturing the nimble and delicate emotions embedded within a seemingly simple story. Written for a short film during a Film Scoring Competition, the score was designed to reflect fleeting emotional shifts—curiosity, longing, determination, loss, and renewal—while remaining understated and supportive of the visuals. The foundation of the piece is a minimalistic melodic and harmonic framework, a deliberate choice to provide flexibility in transitioning between emotions without overwhelming the narrative. This simplicity became a creative asset, allowing for seamless shifts in tone by varying instrumentation, phrasing, and orchestral textures.
Great care was taken to ensure that the recurring theme never felt repetitive, instead evolving through subtle variations that maintained the listener’s interest. The score’s orchestration plays a central role in achieving this, with each section of the orchestra used to highlight distinct emotional moments. Tender strings evoke longing, bright woodwinds reflect curiosity, and soaring brass conveys weight and resolution, while delicate percussion textures add energy and motion. This layered and thoughtful use of the orchestra brought depth to the storytelling, allowing the score to follow the film’s emotional arc with precision.
The goal of Genesis was not to dominate the visuals but to enhance the subtle emotional cues that drive the narrative. Every note was written with the intention of underlining the quiet beauty of fleeting emotions while supporting the story’s deeper themes. The result is a composition that feels intimate yet expansive, guiding the audience through a journey of introspection, loss, and renewal, while celebrating the powerful connection between music and emotion.
